Default Nice one from Old Hickory

I finally used a few days of vacation this week to get a break from a long work stretch and got out on Old Hickory for some fishing. Went out for catfish and white bass on Tuesday and found them deep along the bluffs in about 45ft of water. Had a good morning catching cats to about 5lbs and whites 1 to 2 lbs all on live shad on downlines under the boat.

Wednesday went out with a friend on his boat for a few hours in the evening to do some bass fishing and we caught a number along the main channel flats. I hooked this good one on light tackle that made the trip. No scale or tape measure in his boat and only my crappy cell phone for pics, but I guess it is a solid 6 lbs.

I may get out tomorrow and hopefully the bite is still good.

Jim

Jim,

I understand what you mean by that fish making the trip...it's a nice one!! Glad to hear you could get out for a bit. I'm hoping my work crap is going to finally let up sometime next week, so hopefully I'll have some time to do the same. Let me know if you want to join me.

Give me a call if you have some free time. I am back to work, but may get out some here and there. Fish are definitely biting better than our last trip.

I also made it out Sunday for a few hours to end my vacation. I got 8 bass with two good ones and broke off another big one at the boat.

Here is the pattern that is working for me right now. The shad are thick on the first points and flats off the main channel into the bays. The bass are on any cover (grass or wood) close to the shad. Plastics worked slow tight to the cover was the best lure choice. They didn't seem to want spinnerbaits or crankbaits. There is little pattern to the size of the bass with small and large fish in the same area. I caught fish early, mid-day and late on different trips.

It looks like the beginning of the fall pattern developing.

Good luck,
Jim
