Default Shore spots on the cumberland

Hey Everybody,

I live in downtown Nashville and was wondering if there are spots downtown that you can fish the cumberland from shore? I was at Riverfront park the other day and thought I saw no fishing signs. Any help would be appreciated! Also do a lot of people do well below the Old Hickory Dam? I went there once and the current was crazy as it was back when it was raining lots too. I have hit below center hill a few times and have caught walleyes, and a few trout and a white bass. But am looking to get in to some catfish. Also do lots of guys fish catfish from shore on Percy Priest, or is it tough to get cats from shore around here? Thanks!

Default Old Hickory Dam.

Old Hickory dam can be a great place to fish from the bank if the current flow is just right. I prefer it when they are releasing 25,000 to 30,000 cfs and have two generators or more going. That's just me though. I seem to have the best luck in those conditions. My theory is that the heavier current pushes the fish towards the bank seeking cover and pack more tightly instead of being so scattered. It makes it easier to find them. I just have to move along the bank until I find them. I seem to do better in the winter. There's also less people there at that time. I've not had much luck this summer there. That may be because I go in the morning when I have time and based on the data posted on the website they are releasing more water in the afternoon.

Were you on the stadium side or downtown side with the no fishing signs?

I used to park over at the stadium and go down under the walking bridge. There is a concrete dock on the water and you used to be able to fish off of it. I have caught several smallies when there was current by the bridge support and usually somebody was down there catfishing as well.

I always go on the Hendersonville side. I've never been on the lock side, though I've been told that fishing by the lock can be good for sauger and crappie.

I work downtown and I used to fish some during my lunch break. I've never seen "no fishing" signs and no one ever said anything to me. Maybe the signs are new. Just remember to keep your license in your wallet. I've done better on the Titans side vs. downtown side.

I was on the downtown side when I saw the signs. Maybe it meant just in the park. At the time the river was flooded so I couldn't get to the shoreline. But the signs were permanent. Maybe it just meant off the cement in the park. Thanks for the info guys!
