Default Caney Fork trout stocking

Does anyone know where I can find out when they stock? I'm curious because I did some exploring of new spots on the river today and I found a boat ramp with about 50 trout just hanging around and some of them were very naive, I actually grabbed a couple with my bare hands and tossed them out away from the ramp. As soon as I got there I noticed huge splashing that reminded me of my days in south Florida seeing snook smash mullet against the mangroves. I've never seen this in freshwater. I was able to finally get a good look at the fish and they were giant stripers smashing these baby trout. I think today was a stock day because I can't think of any other reason there would be that many trout hanging around a boat ramp. Does anyone have info on this?

Also, these stripers were big.. I mean real big. They came right up to the shore where I was standing (the water was way too deep to wade here) and went after these little trout and I got a close look at them. They were easily in the 10-15 pound range. I was throwing everything I could think of that would resemble an injured, panicking 6" or so trout and had no luck. All I wanted was to catch one of these beasts!! I tried a topwater popper, some Zoom soft plastic jerkbaits, and a big rapala. Any suggestions? I plan on giving this place another shot since it obviously holds some large stripers. If someone can give me some GOOD advice on how to catch these things.. I may tell you where I saw all this action

Step 1: go to fly south

Step 2: buy a 10 wt rod/reel combo

Step 3: buy a few of their HUGE trout-imitating flies

Step 4: cry like a girl when yet another striper wraps you in a logjam

Now...where were you at when you witnessed Striper vs Trout ?

Seriously, i'll send you a pm...i don't like giving out info on this fishery in a public forum.

To my knowledge they (TWRA) don't post stocking sites or days for the Caney.

I don't think you really wanted to hook one today. You probably liked the rod/reel combo in your hands and have intentions of using it again.

Lol I have not seen anything like that this year. We got some small stripers the other night but no signs of monsters.

Default Stripers on Caney

I have had stripers hit trout imitating lures. Also skipjack will pour to the dam as it warms. Some people use like skipjack. If you do that in the current, hang on. I've landed a 30+ and I was hoping my line would break.
Terrifying but fun.

Those fish have amazing strength. Dad caught a mid-20's on Cordell with a small baitcasting reel and med-light rod. His reel was smoking as line peeled off and we had to slow it down using the trolling motor to chase it.

I haven't caught one over 8-10 lbs or so but I am definitely wanting to and really want to see how much damage they can do on the business end of a fly rod.

jad2t- I am not striper expert but next time you could just put one of those stockers on a hook...

TravisC,

Let's get together for a trip sometime. I have a spare 9 wt and i'll bring the flies. I learned firsthand what happens when you hook a beast (50+) on a fly rod while sitting in a kayak. After towing me 300 yds, the fish had the nerve to wrap me in a logjam. Whenever you feel up to it, gimme a shout.
