Percy Priest Crappie and Gills

Just found the forum and like how you all treat each other...hope to stay around awhile.

Took a mess of gills and Crappie home using a hexi jig tipped with a Gulp fry minnow (1"). Was vertical jigging in 17' fow over brush piles.




Yep..that rod is pretty short lol. But for the way I fish, one of my regular rods would be a pain in the butt.

Heading back out Tue. so Ill let ya know how it goes. (To many fools out this weekend) Have a good one.

Like your setup! Looks like a houseboat. I am surprised they are that deep. I need to get back after them, I have been fishing catfish with foam noodles with my son, he doesn't quite have the casting skill to get on the crappie, as they have been pretty tight to cover the last few times I have gone.

The brush comes up to about the 12fow mark / Crappie are suspended in and above it. The gills are 4-6 feet from the top.

Going Tue. and ill shoot a vid.of the action I hope.

Welcome, is that an ice fishing rod setup?

Have you caught any of the walleye in Normandy fishing for gills and crappie?

That's what it is. Here are two of the ones I use. The top is a 32" ugly stick and the other is a 30" Berkley Ice. I use 2lb clear ice line and I use invisible threat on the other....supper thin but tuff as nails with a higher poundage than one would think.

Those thin dia. lines help in action and spooky fish. Then I add a flasher unit to see the fish and jig in real time....fun way to fish. Those shorter rods keep me from holding the handle way back so the jig is under the transducer.

From the picture and the point in the background, I'm pretty sure I know where that is. Fished that point today matter of fact. Didn't find any crappie on that bank so I'm thinking they've moved. Went up to Stewart's creek and managed some decent largemouth on crankbaits.
