Default Justin West benefit tournament

Is anyone fishing this benefit tournament out of OH Cedar Creek this Saturday? A great cause here is the link if you don't know the story.

Justin was a great guy. We went to high school together and were friends. I didn't even know he passed away. He was a good kid always with a smile in his face.

Yes from what I know he's been in Atlanta for rehab. Are you fishing in this? I hope they have 100 boats to help him out.

I have to work or I certainly would. I wish him the best in recovery.

I fished it. Competition was tough. 88 boats. We fell short of the 3 fish limit but managed to get 2 fish that weighed right at 6lbs. We caught a lot of fish but most were either too short or not the right species. Tons of white bass and hybrids, 3 sauger including a huge 20 incher, a crappie and a few yellow bass. 14lbs won it and I think, if I remember correctly, big fish was 7lbs. Had a great time. I didn't know Justin but hope that my small part in this tourney helped a fellow fisherman out.

I fished it too it was a tough day. Keepers were tough to come by for us. Here are the results.
Lforet2002 what area of the lake did you fish?

We didn't fish too far from the marina. We just didn't have the horsepower to make any long treks in the lake. We were also unfamiliar with the area as we normally fish from Sanders Ferry to the dam and that was just too far for us. Only thing I can tell you is that we boated out of the marina, cleared the point to the left and fished the drops right there. We were just trolling deep diving cranks on the ledges. Not sure what that area is called. We did hit a few coves and tried some topwater early but had no luck.

Looking at those weights makes me think I'm clearly not fishing the same lake as those guys. Maybe I'm driving into some twilight zone on my way to Old Hickory and ending up on some other lake. Right now it would take me a month at OH to catch 3 fish that weighed 15lbs. Gives me hope though. Lets me know there is great bite going on that I'm missing. I really need to sit down and go over what I haven't been doing.

For us, we've found that the deep diving cranks are working but figuring out the color has been a challenge. Having a box full of different colors and of course you get to the very last one to find that's the one that works. Everytime it seems to be something different. Sometimes it's also the size of the crank. Sometimes they want a big crank next thing you know they only hit a smaller one.
