River evening
Figgered I'd run down to the river and catch a coupla walleye/sauger for a dinner later this week.
Told my honey (wifey) that I'd be out til after dark, just make me a plate and I'd heat it up later.
Went down to the rivers edge and started flingin a 3/8 oz jig with a 3" slider. Wound up catchin 2 white bass, 2 skipjacks, 1 LM bass, one 16 inch walleye and one 18 inch sauger.
When I caught the sauger, I was done.
Just wanted to catch enough fish for a dinner.
Went home to a deep fried LM bass filet, hush puppies and fresh green beans.
Life is good!

Someone had to take over eating trophy bass, striper and hybrid for Jimmy since he moved to Minnesota.

I don't think it was the green carp that pissed most people off, it was those big brown ones with a small mouth

Don't know why anyone would be upset by a person catching and eating a fish the state has deemed legal to catch and consume if one is so inclined.
Brown fish are not some God protected species, only here in the south are they revered.
Go to other places they are deemed a poor man's shore lunch and shaken off like carp or skipjacks.

Take a couple of guided fishing trips in the Boundary Waters or in Canada or even Northern, State side fisheries. The first thing the guides do is catch smallies for shore lunch. Mmmmmm <'TK><

There really is no difference in taste at Old Hickory but the thing is on Old Hickory we don't have a large Smallie population so when we kill one it takes away from the lake.
We have a nice amount of other fish to eat and as stated above it is legal so what can be done.
Ethics are a part of each of us and how much each uses varies but as for me it is my conscience of this great water system we have here in Middle Tennessee.

Well, I'm out of this equation as I never fish for smallmouth bass, rarely catch one, even by accident, and certainly none that are legal length.

I've not ate one in a LONG time. Jimmy always liked them out of the colder lakes, thought they had a firmer fillet and better taste. He never really liked crappie because they are not firm enough. He's in Minnesota ice fishing and eating everything now.

The only smallies I have ever eaten were on trips in the Boundary Waters. They are delicious as long as they are under around 12 inches. Anything over that and they aren't nearly as good.

Whats wrong with my taste buds? The fish I keep are Bluegill, shellcracker crappie, catfish, sauger and walleye. Oh some tilapia. Maybe I need to eat a LM or smallie to see if my taste buds have changed over the years? I tried a 8lb striper last year it was just so so to me. It was fried, too.
