Default Help me ID this fish

I caught this in the duck river above Normandy lake today. It was in about 3' of water with a pretty strong current. I've asked several friends and deformed smallmouth seems to be the consensus. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

It looked to have lots of very small teeth... but I wasn't about to stick my hand in it's mouth to verify that

Smallmouth for sure. I have seen this type of deformation before, but very rarely.

Smallie / piranha cross breed.

Piranhas and Crappie cross breeds have been found in Douglas lake.

That's it! Lol.

Thanks for all the help guys. I caught another smallie of similar size just minutes before that so it makes sense. I've never seen a deformity like that though.

I've seen that deformity on a few fish I've caught over the years. Wonder what causes that?

Used to see that most often on Lake Trout (and all species) in the Great Lakes. Always a lamprey wound to go with it (or still attached). The lamprey invasion crushed a LOT of sportfishing throughout the '70s '80's and well into the '90s before the streams and canals were choked off during the lamprey migratory run to spawn.
