Great Friday.

Did not plan on fishing Friday. Had instructions to clean the house. Well I had a pretty strong belief there would be some good fishing at Nickajack today. So up at 5:30....a cup of coffee and I light into cleaning the house. Four hours later am on my way to Nickajack. As I head down Monteagle...a pretty steep grade.....my vehicle starts making a noise as I apply the brakes. I get off at the Nickajack exit and by this time I know something is wrong. Pull into a business parking lot and a man comes out and tells me I have something hanging under my Escape. It is my skid plate....LOL. Had the oil changed last week and they obviously did not tighten the screws and it vibrated loose....only one screw was left in it and he removed it with his fingers. I put the skid plate in the Escape and headed to my fishing spot. Bass were busting all over the place. I had two UL rods...same as yesterday...one rigged with a Bison Trout Magnet and one rigged with a Midnight Blue Dancer on a 1/16 ounce Micro Dancer Head....both spooled with 2# test SOS Line. In 3.5 hours caught over 100 fish. About 75 of them a mixture of KY bass and largemouth....about 25 of that mix was Spotted bass that gave me a lot of fun. Just the right size to give a good fight on the UL setup. Had 4 crappie at the 10-11 inch mark.....about 25 Gills around 7-8 inches and what I believe is my first ever red breast sunfish....regardless of what it is it gave a very good fight. Then I had a big boy hit the Trout Magnet right before I left. I first thought it was an old drum until it jumped. After an epic battle got him to the net....a very nice man who I have met before at Normandy....and is a fishingtn member...was there who netted him for me....many thanks to him as I am not sure I could have worked the net too. While it should have weighed more it was still plenty heavy. To land that fish everything had to be right.....the drag was set right.....the rod performed flawlessly......and I can't say enough about SOS 2# test line. After the jump the fish headed into the rocks...I could feel the line being dragged across the rocks. After I released the fish I peeled off about 5 feet of my line.... it was quite frayed.....as any line would be after that....but it held. Oh and I need to mention luck was on my side too....LOL. It was a fantastic day. The KY bass were giving me a lot jumps...just a lot of fun. All the bass.....except for the big one....was caught by casting into the jumps.....and I would cast even if they were not in the jumps as they were just hanging around all over the place....and twitching the Dancer back very fast just barely keeping it under the surface....they would crush it when they hit it. The Gills and crappie were caught twitching the Trout Magnet on the bottom...or close to it in 23 feet of water. Time to re-spool reels with fresh line and get ready for next week. Life is good!!

Nice! You fishing below the dam? I thought about trying below Pickwick this week. Never tried it in the fall.

No......fishing up in the lake. Below the dam at Pickwick is fantastic in the fall...but this year they are not running the water as in years past. The level is averaging about 10 feet lower than normal. Now usually that means fishing is not so good. But I will hit Pickwick in about 10 days to find out.

Almost no current below dam but still some Kentucky bass but not as usual fall fishing.

Thanks. Didn't think about the low flow in the river. I guess I'll stick closer to home.
