I took the kayak down to the Collins Scenic River for the first time today. Had a blast catching small bass and bluegills. I caught three very large fish that appear to be bluegill. Can someone identify this fish ...
Looks like a female shellcracker.....and a good one at that. Female shellcracker lack the bright colors of the male.......many are mistaken for something else.
One thing I learned when I moved up here to Tennessee over 10 years ago all the fish have different names in Louisiana.. Dat fish rite der the shellcracker would be called a lake runner.. The other one posted in the other thread, the warmouth we call a goggleye.. A bowfin we call a choupique.. A largemouth bass is a green trout.. When I first arrived here I asked a guy where round these parts can I catch some sac au lait ( sock-o-lay)??? The guy says sac a what?? You know a sac au lait.. He had no idea what the hell I was talking bout... Couldn't think of what else they would call it. Then later on I figured it out and told him it was a crappie..
