Default This is not a boat repair thread....

Back to work today after fishing for 3 full days for striped bass. My brother in law from Missouri was with me and we had a blast. Bait was difficult to come by in the early mornings. On our first day I spent 5 hours throwing my net to obtain 29 baits. It paid off within 20 minutes of fishing when we caught a 20 pounder. An 18 pounder followed shortly after and then a small 5-6 pounder and a white bass. Day 2 started with a 21 pounder, a 6 pound walleye that is in the fridge now, and then in high-sun, middle of the afternoon, on a small bait in the middle of the channel the big one hit. Jon grabbed the rod and lost about 1/2 his spool before I started to follow it with the boat while taking video. The planer board release didn't pop loose so the fish was pulling the planer board everywhere which actually helped slow her down significantly. I believe the fight was about 4 minutes long when he got her in the boat. 42 pounds - 41 inches long - about 29-30 inches girth. Jon took her home to Missouri where his taxidermist will mount her. He also took a shad to use in the mount to re-create the strike.

Most of the photos and video were on his phone but here is a photo of the big fish and the 6 pound walleye.

Good times. It's beautiful out there. I'm exhausted but eager to go back!

Default Video and more pix

Here is a video of Jon reeling in his first striper of the 3 day trip.

https://youtu.be/LpUXaJUzR0s

He weighed 18 pounds. I'm running my mouth way too much while taking the video and the fish hit right when I had started a partial water change in the bait tank so I set the camera down a couple times to tend to the bait. Someday I'll get one of those fancy camera's Bob has but until then... this is the best I can do. Ha! Here is a picture too.

The video of Jon catching the 42 pounder is on his iphone. As soon as he gets me a copy I'll post that one too.

Is this on Old Hickory? Did your boat need any repairs while you were out there?
That's awesome that he got to experience this!

No boat repairs at all. I finished swapping power heads and working all the kinks out late the night before Jon was driving here. I sent him a text to let him know he didn't need to bring his s boat with him. Thanks for all of the kind words y'all. I'm already itching to get back out there...
