Striper fishermen

I want to make it clear that I don't know anything about striper fishing. My only experience with them is occasionally catching one while bass fishing. I was watching the fishing show "Hooking up with Mariko". They were fishing lake Lanier for striper. The cpt and local guide was bouncing a pool cue on the floor of the boat to "call them in". Has anyone ever heard of this? BTW they were catching 5-10 lbers one after the other. At first I thought he was messing around but after a few minutes I was convinced either it was working or the cpt certainly believed that it was.

hmmmmmm.... i guess it may depend on the individual situation. I would take a guess that if your striper fishing a body of water like the caney and drop a cue ball in the boat, ya might get shot at....lol.....but thats a clear, relatively shallow fishery.
on the other hand, the theory may be like the hydrowave thing the pros have on thier boats where it simulates shad or feeding fish in turn calling other fish to come check it out.
i would imagine though, in any boat, dropping a cue ball would be a fairly loud sound where one may think it would be too un-natural to attract anything but cursing mumbles from other fisherman near by. Lol
ive heard of guys using some kind of loud crank contraption in Reelfoot lake to "call in" the catfish.

To be more clear it was a pool cue not a cue ball

Yes I've seen that before. They said when the fish are in the hatchery they hit the side of the tanks the fish know that it's feeding time, so that's kind of their Dinnerbell call hitting the pool cue on the bottom of the boat. I guess it depends what body of water your on if this works or not?
