Old hickory crappie 12-12-15
Water temp was warmer than last weekend. Didn't catch as many fish but we got better quality and more keepers. It was my friends birthday and he showed out!!! Lol happy birthday to deezltek. All but one keeper came off the same brush pile in 13 fow with an occasional yellow bass and small stripe mixed in. all the crappie came on minnows, only caught bass on jigs this trip. The biggest crappie was 14"!!! And it gave him a helluva time getting it to the boat!!

It was a great day on the water..
That 14"er was a blast on light tackle. .

Thanks...we've been hard at it trying to figure these tasty creatures out! Can't wait for the day we find the magic honey hole and limit out with 14" plus fish!!! Lol

Light and ultra light rods with 2-4 lb test line. That light light enough for ya?? Lol. That's what deezltek uses. I like light and light medium rods with 6-8 lb line. I like to tighten my drag a little more and try to get keep them from getting into the trees and breaking me off.

Was just curious if any other dedicated UL fisherman on here......4# is a little heavy for me....prefer 2# and sometimes 1# test. Nice catches no matter what you used to catch them.

deezltek is. Me not so much. I love the fight and battle with ultra light, but I'm out to win and eat!! Lol. If I thought I could catch fish with a chain I'd use it!! I want all and every advantage.
But my hats off to you dedicated ultra light tackle guys. I did hang into a 3.5-4' long sturgeon below old hickory dam a month or two ago on medium action spinning rod with 8lbtest. That's my light tackle fishing!!! And that was a battle of man vs. dinosaur!!! Lol I was jigging for sauger and foul hooked it in the right fin. Thought I was stuck on bottom. I gave it another tug and it came to life!!!! Followed it around with the troller while it striped drag for 15+ minutes. Had a guy in a striper boat try to net it, he touched it and the fish was gone again. Muscled it to the boat and deezltek had his hands on it. I put my rod down and the hook feel out, I guess the fish felt it Fall out and it went crazy and got away. 😕 But, I feel like it was a success. The fish would've been released anyways but I would e loved a pic with it.

I used to be the 6-8 # light line guy. I now fish 4# and 2# after seeing how well Alpha does. You would be impressed how well 4# can handle larger fish.

It was an absolute blast. I was wore out, and could barely lift my arms for an hour. And was done jigging for the day!!
I use to be a 12-15lb test fisherman but have been easing down as I get wiser in my older days. Lol

I enjoy the light tackle.... #2 on my UL and #4 on my Light...
In my opinion, on those tough days, the light tackle usually puts something in the boat..
