Me and a buddy went to Williamsport October 17 th. We fished Shellcracker lake from about 1:30 to 6:00. Caught probably 25 crappie with 14 being 10" - 11" and 1 at almost 13". Also had three good keeper bluegill.
Hung one beast of a fish that went around the front of the boat at about 40 mph. My little Daiwa with 4 lb. line was squeelin like a girl....right before the line broke. All fish caught (and lost) on 1/16 oz head with panfish assassin around brush. Hot color was pearl with chart or lime green. Marked lots of fish 5-6 ft down in 8-10 ft of water.
The wind was a bear but we still had a great time!

I'm going to guess by the description of what happened with that fish you lost that you hooked a big hybrid.
