Default The Worst Best Fishing Day of the Year-11/29/2015

It was one of those days when you don't catch much. The rain fell.

It started extremely slow. An 8 inch rainbow. I kept mumbling to myself out loud-"I'm going to move in 5 minutes....No more than five minutes..." I only had a three hour window. At around the 1 hour mark, I catch a 1 lb largemouth. As I am fighting it, watching it dive, double over my rod... I see a monster swim up, look at the bass and swim off.

I stammered- "What the hell was that?" A monster.

Still mumbling- "Moving in 30 mins. Have to move." A few more small fish.

The rain stopped.

Casted one rod about 20 yards. Tossed one close. Then everything seemed like it was in time lapse. The far rod hit within 2 seconds after the close rod splashed down. I jerked and knew something big. Cranked down. "OH, SH*T!" The rod doubled over. The drag sang and half the spool was gone. The close rod hit. Locked the drag on the first rod, flipped back reel on, index finger now the drag, reaching down with the other hand and jerking the second rod. Not so big. crouching down, cranking number 2 rod in close. Big fish still ripping line, spool knocking my knuckles. S words. F words.
New weird words.

After about two minutes the fish turned and came forward. Back and forth, back and forth. Three my net to the water's edge (luckily my hemostats were tangled in the net). Jumped in the water (Thank god I was wearing waders.) Finally she came up. I don't know if she was the monster but she was ia monster n her own right. She slid in the next but didn't fit. By the grace of god she stayed in.
Hook out. Two quick picks (Both poor). Held her in the water till she swam off strong.
30 inches on the nose. My biggest brown to date. Finally I caught a keeper and set her fat butt loose.

I hope to see her again next November.... rain or shine.

Default Brown

To be honest this was not the big fish I noiced oogling my bass.
It was ginormous and had a white spot on his/her LH jaw. Absolutely terrifyingly big.

Goodness that's a monster!! Beautiful fish. Did you get that one during generation? I'm anxious to get the yak down there and jerkbait for browns and walleye again.

Default Timing

It was during non- generation. Hits came in waves. Only one quality fish. Saw many jumping joy of considerable size.

Now with the rain it will be double gens for weeks.

Great Falls is dropping 30,000 cfs!!!!

Congrats! What a fish!! Hopefully I can catch one someday, I bet the striper will move up the river soon if they keep up the 2+ gens.

Excellent fish and story! That one will be in the memory bank for a long time.

Wow, that is crazy about Great Falls pushing 30K. I used to fish that area frequently but never have been up there during high generation like that. If anybody is up that way, post a pic, I'd like to see what that looks like. Level 10 rapids for sure coming down towards blue hole.
