Default Nickajack

Hit Nickajack at 9:45 a.m. and left at 2:00 p.m. with 13 crappie.....2 shy of the limit of 15. I am finding the older I get the less I can hang around for those few more hours to get those last fish to limit out......but hey.....13 crappie from Nickajack is a nice haul. The crappie there are very broad shouldered fish. My smallest was just over 11 inches and the largest just over 13 inches....most fish were at the 12 inch mark. They were holding on the bottom in 21 feet of water. I used a Tict Ice Cube 6' 9" Mebaru UL rod to catch all fish.....line used was 2# test braid with an 18 inch leader of 2# test Phantom fluorocarbon leader. The lure was a Bison Trout Magnet either on a 1/64 or 1/24 ounce jig head with a #8 hook. Catching 12-13 inch slab crappie on 2# test is a lot of fun...life is good!

Nice chunky slabs you got there Randy. You must really like that place to drive all the way there from the boro now!

Thanks Jimmy.....Before I moved the drive was 149 miles....now it is only 91. Not many places one can go and fish from the bank and limit out more than 90 percent of the time you go with quality fish like those at Nickajack. I have a nephew that will schedule his vacation either around fall or spring and we will hit it 5 days in a row. Now that I have my boat I plan on getting into some of the big Gills and shell cracker that are there. But my home lake now will be Center Hill. I already miss Pickwick. I will still hit Pickwick but not near as much.

Regards

Oh nevermind, I thought you were closer before. I'd love to get after the spawning Smallies on Center Hill in the Spring and I always say I will but then I get consumed with Hybrids, Crappie on JPP and turkey season.

Your right on the money for Crappie on JPP, I would turkey one day and crappie the next. April is prime for largemouth on a jerkbait just sayin.

Yea but I can catch LM all year and I'm bored with them. Hybrids are much more fun and they taste better. April is the time when I can really nail them. Outside of that pre-spawn action I hardly ever catch one.

Default Directions to Center Hill

Hey Alpha, I'm having trouble finding Center Hill Lake/Dam. I found 3 places on Mapquest with almost the same name. From your comment you must be talking about the closest one. Can you(or anyone) give me directions on how to get there from M-boro?

As far as I can tell, I should go out Mercury Blvd / US-70S about 23 miles. But where do I turn? I cannot find a lake on the satellite view in the Center Hill area.

Also, is there any area of the lake that is more suited to shore fishing than others?

Thanks
