Moving from salt to fresh, you may be a bit disappointed; so keep expectations in check. I'd suggest bringing just one, light, spin-cast set-up with ~10lb line. 7' rod. Other gear: go simple . . . small stuff (small jigs with swim baits/twister tails). Spend about $20 at a local bait store when you're around Cookeville.
You'll be fairly limited on shore fishing options, but certainly not "locked out."
You're going to be pretty close to Dale Hollow, so you might consider a fishing charter for Stripers above the damn or a trout float below the damn in the tail waters. Your light gear will work fine for trout, and a striper guide will have gear to use.
Definitely bring something . . . you'll be in a beautiful location and will want to fish.
