The Pigs are Shallow Part II
Abridged version: I slayed Percy Priest -- and I see not the only one. Kudos, CreekCrappie.
Unabridged for those into info/reports: Put in at Jefferson and slowly worked my way towards lower end. Zip first three hours -- water a lot more stained than up by Pooles Knob. Finally settled down on a spot that typically produces year round -- spitting distance of the main channel, of course. First cast, solid keeper, three casts later a 3-1 (see pic), and maybe five casts after that, she hit. And when I say hit, I mean I got my squarebill stuck on a stump, moved the boat to get a better angle to pop it loose, and when it came free, she absolutely crushed it. Got her by the boat, no jumps, just barrel rolling around. Couldn't even see the lure it was so deep in her mouth. Took a few pics and they got her on the scale....6-3!!! Biggest Priest bass by over a pound. And after I calmed down, 10 feet to the right gave up a 3-15 (see pic). Four fish, 15 pounds, personal best, all in the span of 20 minutes on a spot no bigger than my driveway -- and I didn't catch another fish the rest of the day. In conclusion, they're up shallow 5-8 feet. Tie on a squarebill, run it into the bottom and any cover you can find. If you're picking up leaves you need to move. I was using X-Cal XCS 200 Foxy Shad on 12 lb floro, 7MH mojo, speed spool. Good luck.
