I was desperate to get on the water yesterday. It turns out I wasn't the only one. The parking lot at Stewart's Creek was packed. There were several cars and a van parked right in front of the ramp (for anyone with a boat trailer, it would have made things tricky). But that's another post altogether.
I hit my usual spots with a crankbait and a plastic worm. Apart from one feeble "tap" on the worm, I couldn't buy any action.
I returned to the area near the boat ramp and finally hooked a small largemouth. After hours of nothing, I was grateful to get the skunk off of me. Minutes later, I cast my crankbait on top of some exposed rubber tires. I felt a snag and assumed I was caught on debris. Then I felt that familiar pull as my kayak took a sleigh ride down the shore.
What a thrill! It's always great to have witnesses on the shore too. For whatever reason, most of my action has come from crankbaits during the past year. Maybe my patience for working soft plastics has evaporated...
