Good to meet you this morning Mike! Glad your dad got one.
Quote of the day, "I don't even like fishing for stripers that much..." That guy must not know what he's missing...
I'm heading back to try again in the morning. Hopefully it's my turn to put one in the boat.

It was great meeting your parents this past week Mike, they are really nice people "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree". Your dad was the most deserving person for that fish this morning. I'm very happy for him, that's a fish of a lifetime, and something neither of you will forget. When he held that fish up and I finally saw it I thought oh wow. I'm surprised anyone is catching fish with as much bait is in there, and you can sure tell by the bellies that are on the fish that are being caught.

A little info Mike, You have broke the Schoolie Barrier by 6 Pounds ... That was an official Rogue ... Also that fish was between 8 and 10 years old ...
A point to remember as the water temp rises in to the Spring ... Lactic Acid ... Stripers are real susceptible as the water temps approach 60 deg's when a lengthy Play to retrieve is used ... Stress will kill these fish quicker than most do to their strength... Lactic acid sets in, in their muscles and prohibits them to swim, especial the larger fish and also what expedites this is how hard they have been played... That is why I used custom built broom handles for poles ... GET THEM IN THE BOAT ASAP in the warmer weather a 55 pound plus fish will sound and then do about three 360 deg's around the boat ... This is a fine line of possible killing a 10 to 14 year old fish if this was not your intention ... If it is .. and you want a trophy for the wall ... It is legal and it is your fish ... (rule of thumb, don't keep another unless it beats the one on the wall by 10 pounds)
Remedy .. Unlike bass ... oxygen is not what they need ... So moving them back and forth in the water and pushing water through their gills is not the answer ... What you have to do while in the water is grab in front of the tail and move it back and forth (left to right) as many times as you can before you release Her. This releases the lactic acid and gets the muscles working again 75% of the time ... She may float for about 10 seconds and then you will see Her kick ... and slowly swim off ... Note: 50 pound plus fish you will have to use two Hands ... One hand won't go around the tail ...
So A Great Day on the water with some great folks and Family !!! Priceless !! <'TK><
