Stripers between OH and CH

Hello all, I am very thankful to have found this forum.

I am new to the area and live very close to lock 6. I would like to know when the stripers are in this area the most and if anyone has any tips for catching them.

I generally use live or cut bait on a float rig at different depths or a catfish rig down low. I would imagine the fish are at different levels in the water column during different times of the year and have been fishing all over it trying to find them.

I have been fishing mostly off the tail of the abutment @ 36.349343, -86.143220, as I figure there is a good seam along the channel and the eddy.

There are TONS of baitfish rising every time I go there and have not had a problem catching bait right there, so I assume the predatory fish are also close by.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Buddy of mine ran into a bunch of hybrids yesterday near Drakes Creek. Caught them all on top with a Rapala. He was looking for LM but changed plans when the hybrids were running up and down the mud line.

Could he have ran into a school of white bass?

This is my first year here near OH so I can't say that I know much about it. I think they were mostly smaller fish he was catching...

There are a bunch of hybrids in OH in places. A taxidermist I know mounts a bunch of them for a guy up to 15 lbs and he wears them out on Old Hickory at certain times of the year.

Thank for the responses guy. I can only assume that to get to the channel near Drakes a boat is necessary. Can you guys confirm this?

Unfortunately, it's bank fishing only for me right now. I really wish I had a boat.... I'll be looking into getting a river craft, of some type, when $$ allows.

It's pretty developed all along Drakes or know someone that lives there to access their yard on the lake. There a park at the mouth called Saunders Ferry and the channel does have a swing near but the odds of catching them there are probably a low %. You are far better of trying your luck below the Dams during releases being bank bound.

Someone is catching them because I found a three footer floating at lock 3 ramp yesterday. What a waste of a great fish...............woody
