You can with the minimum 250 running, but you have to be careful with your trailer tires falling off the ramp. On the other side, the ramp is plenty long, but pretty shallow. The front tires of your vehicle will need to be well into the water. With 1 generator or more, you can launch at the campground without a problem, just a little current. I have launched on 3 gens and sluicing without an issue.

Running 11,500 cfs was a cake walk launching and loading my bass boat by the campground but that was no sluice all gens. The water gets pretty choppy once the gate is added to the mix.

If you are wanting to just fish the pond at the Dam then you probably can launch there on only a gate but fishing that area while its going could be tricky. Floating downstream after launching on a sluice you have better know the river and its bars. I wouldn't do it in mine unless its at least a generator going and even then there are skinny areas.

Yeah, I've gotten into some sticky situations fishing the caney in my boat, put in in Gordonsville ramp one time and floated down, went over some real shallows. Didn't even think about getting back up, we barely made it with both of us out of boat and pushing/pulling it up river. Caught several rainbows but did not think we were getting back to ramp.
From what I understand the fishing is not good when generating and should go before or after???

Fishing is good during generation if you're looking for bigger trout. You'll catch fewer fish but larger. I've had luck for larger trout wading high but falling water in early evening.

If you have the means..then fish it on 1-2 generators. You have a misunderstanding from someone's info.

I prefer not to fish out of a boat on low water unless it is only a means of transportation between spots. I like to wade so I tend to lean on low water but when there is water I would definitely fish it.

Definitely stay clear of the pond area during generation for at least the next few weeks since sluice flow will greatly increase during generation making it dangerous to be there.

If you take your boat and float the high water throw stickbaits with patterns of trout. Smithwick rattlin rogues work great too, chrome with the blue or black back.

jimmy, you're talking all chinese to me, no idea what these baits are? I know soft and hard bait but stickbait???

Some refer to them as jerkbaits, some say stickbaits. Check out the rattlin rogue lures and you'll see what I'm referring to. Those work great in the Caney for larger brown trout as do any type of hard jerkbait in a trout pattern. I have a yozuri rainbow trout pattern lure that has worked well for me in the past.

In either traditional floating or broken back (jointed) Brown Trout 3"-4" you can get at Bass Pro and probably elsewhere.

Floating in these. Suspending in rogues.

I personally want suspending in all if its available. The last thing i want to have happen when a big brown is tailing my bait is for the bait to rise on a pause. Natural forage doesn't rise. If your constantly moving it then its not as much of an issue.
