Epic day.

Arrived at Normandy early this a.m. and was killing the spots....they were bigger today...between 14 and 16 inches. After catching 23 of them decided to try my walleye hole. I was breaking the cardinal sin of fishing.......never leave a spot your catching fish. After a couple of casts the fight was on. I saw him 4 times before I get get him in the net...and my net was not big enough. After I landed the walleye it was time to leave.....it wasn't going to get any better. All my fish were caught on a Bison colored Trout Magnet using a 1/16 ounce Crappie Magnet Double Cross jig head with 2# test SOS line and 2# test fluorocarbon leader. I only casted maybe 30 times to get 23 spots. They were stacked in there again. The walleye measured 25.5 inches. I weighed it on a scale that had been certified in the past but I am sure it was off some.....but it weighed 8 pounds.....big female. No matter what it weighed I am one happy man!

You know when Alpha says "EPIC DAY" you have to open and read!!! Awesome eye! To be honest I was hoping you were going to say you caught your limit at Nickajack and they were all 14" to 15". I'm going to be down that way next week, hope to get some fishing in, I'll report what I do if I get a chance.

Nice catch, Randy.
I noticed that the picture was not taken around water. Can't believe you kept it. If you have remorse I can take it off your hands. ;);) |
Great fish Alpha! I REALLY need to get down there!

Thanks for the comment guys. The only thing I didn't keep from that fish was the head. I filleted it and then cut the cheeks out....saved the ribs...and cut the back bone into sections. A lot of meat on that fish. After I cleaned the fish then headed up to HOOK1 with browntrout to watch him spend some money....LOL. Been a long day. Will hit it again Friday. Life is good!

BEAUTIFUL walleye Randy! Those are the kind of fish that totally make a fishing trip.
And if I didn't have a Dr's appt. Friday morning, I would meet you there.....although there is a 100% chance of rain on Friday. Tomorrow morning should be great there. |
