Smallmouth bass
hammered them last week, free gps coordinates to this spot.
Average fish was 3-1/2 lbs with biggest being just over 5. 40-50 smallmouth a day per person. doesnt get any better than that. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...psjlee50yj.jpg |

blackdog is the winner. my 82 year old dad, my brother and myself. Great week of fishing, smallies, walleye and pike (even though we could care less about pike). Many, many fish in 4 to 5 lb range and it unbelievable how many walleye we catch considering we do not know how to catch them and do not try to catch them. I could easily catch over 100 walleye a day on Rainy. Will add some pics when I get time.

pretty typcial smallmouth for Rainy lake. Pic does make weight look a little more than it really is.

My favorite bird of all, the loon. First morning, these 2 showed up and just circled my boat. For sure know you are in Canada when they really start talking, love listening to them.

the yamaha generator at work
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...psoyb08cmm.jpg My brother doing what we do for dad. He does not tie a lure or take a fish off. He casts and catches them. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...psfhaxvmal.jpg My brother, the cook, he is a good one to. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...psfryobwqv.jpg last pic, we were just starting to pack up. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...psqfyysrtg.jpg |

Not sure if this will work, sounds good on my phone, but doesn't seem to come thru on computer, will give it a try.
short video of view from the island http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...pss5kmgedr.mp4 and, recorded from inside the tent, nothing to look at, but you hopefully can hear the loons. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...pssazjb2cb.mp4 |

couldn't have worked out any better, he probably caught the most and the biggest of everything but the pike. I am cursed at times by the smallmouth gods. Every year, my dad and brother, if not a couple times at least once, they will be catching smallmouth on every other cast or so and I can throw on top of the lure, beside it, cut them off, etc. you name it and I will catch a pike. They call me the tooth king, and the last 5 trips my last fish has been a pike everytime and I promist you it is not because I am trying to catch one. I did hook one that got off, that was 40" fish or better, I would have liked to have gotten him in. For my brother and myself is all about our dad and we could care less if we catch anything so long he does. He carried both of us on our first trips when we were 13 and we have been hooked ever since. His first trip was to Rainy about 1970. I have fished many, many lakes in Ontario, they are all breathtaking and great to fish, but Rainy is for sure one of the best. |
Outstanding, great pics, thanks for sharing.

Love those Smallies
This is a great post Thanks for showing us.
What memories are made of! |
Awesome pictures, what a beautiful place. What's the weather like up there this time of year?
|
1st of July is always great. Can get cold at night and it can get hot in the daytime, but it usually just comfortable. Went once in August, we caught the fish and caught them well, but it was HOT. This year it was cold the first 2 nights and the first day, but after that it was great.
