Thank you FishFinderG, your thoughts are very parallel with my own regarding the Alewives and their impact to the fishery. I hear varying thoughts on the two genomes and I have had conversations with TWRA biologist regarding the health of the populations of both Walleye and Sauger throughout TN. I'm just happy TN is Blessed with these tasty fish and I attempt to learn as much as possible to aid in my ability to catch them.

I just don't see how it could be possible for the strain to exist with limited to no reproduction occurring over the last 35 years plus with the several million they have stocked over that time period. Even if they were reproducing the gene pool would be so diluted that one strain would not be possible. Almost three years ago we pulled what a biologist called a blue walleye out of Dale, so I guess to never know...

Good fighting though!

Nice catch of everything Dave !! Looks like you had a great year. Did you get a different boat?

fishfindergeneral 12-26-2015 09:43 AM

Tnbronzeback, they deserve more respect.... I believe they'd pull a striper around if tied tail to tail.

Gary, merry Xmas. Thanks buddy. Yeah, I got a Lowe deck boat. It's about the most versatile boat around. Comfortable seating, yes I said seating, for 6 plus a large Bimini top for shade..

cat-tales 12-26-2015 05:46 PM

Merry Christmas Dave !! Nice to hear about the new boat, the seating will open a lot of possibilities for customers. Sounds like a good move,
I'll have to stop by and see it .
Of course, the old boat didn't owe you ANYTHING, you got a lot of use out of it.

I'm really glad to hear Dale has came back, what a wonderful place to fish.

I moved back to Dale last June, but only got out twice.

fishfindergeneral 01-01-2016 11:22 AM

Gary, are you at a marina or trailering?

cat-tales 01-03-2016 10:06 PM

Hey Dave,
I'm at Sunset Marina........the road to Willow Grove was too rough on the wife (car sick) ..........

I'm taking Linda out for muskies this week.

The lake has finally completed turning over and it's business as usual with temps up at the split around 43 and 46 down on the lower end.
I hit the water around 9 am with regular client Carlie Lyon looking for a big walleye. We struck gold around 11 and were back at the dock for lunch. Since he got what he came for he headed home. That gave me the opportunity to put away the walleye gear and grab some light stuff for some smallie action. On my way back to town the next morning I met a buddy of mine below Cordell who had never fished tail races for sauger. It's been more than twenty years since I've fished for them. We got a few and missed a few including these two overs, 18 and 17.5. We really had a blast for a couple hours befor the wind chased us off. That's the first time I've fished anywhere but Dale in twelve years....

Thanks Alpha, we just started getting on them pretty good and then the wind picked up and made it all but impossible..
