Default Rainbow on the Caney

I haven't fished the Caney in a while. But we camped below the dam at Longbranch a few weeks ago so I was able to get in some fly fishing. Caught stockers but I did catch this good Rainbow on my 4wt.

Solid fish. What did you catch it on, style of fly? I've fly fished the caney a couple times and caught some fish, first ever on a dry was there. It's been a year or so since I have been back.

Nice fish.

Me and a friend floated from dam to the first landing and had a great time till the commercial floaters showed up 40 at a time every 15mins.
Nuts there now.

I've never caught a trout in my whole life. Beautiful fish. Wish I knew how. Do they bite on spinning tackle like mepps etc ?

In the past I've caught them on spinning tackle using rooster tails and small Rapalas. But it's been my experience that you'll catch so many more with a fly rod and midges, sowbugs etc.

Good lord. I've been down there and had maybe 10 people float by but nothing like that.

Having a cabin on the Caney for years and fished for trout for years before the Caney became the 8th Disney attraction. I have caught Trout on about anything out there. from Rapala's, Salmon eggs, mepps's, flys, etc. The most sure and productive way is to use a nightcrawler worm threader.. See below. TK
