anyone use an Anchor Trolley?

I fished out of the new Lure today and realized that I want to be able to anchor myself when needed and like the idea of the trolley system so I can adjust the weight for the wind direction. Anyone use this system on their Kayaks?

Yeah I used it on 3 kayaks. It works great. You can drop anchor and position the boat on almost a full 360 degrees. IMHO install points need to be as close to bow and stern as possible. Plus it allows you to use a stake out pole in shallow water....I have the 8 foot pole. But I hated having to anchor. I also have a couple of drift chutes I use with anchor trolley.

Rivers not at all.

Reservoirs, yes, but I prefer anchoring off the bow. Cleaner/simpler system. I am more of a run and gun guy, plus the line tends to catch treble hooks (for me). It does have more utility than a static anchor.

With most mods, best to use the kayak for few times, then mod.

Thanks alpha. i take it you put a track on both sides? I purchased to 8' poles to use as shallow water anchors but I think they are to light. I tried to use them today in like 7' of water and they would not stay stuck in the ground, they just floated up.

No I only had a trolley on one side. A lot put two trolleys on. On my Coosa....that I use only on rivers or creeks.....I have the dog leash and about 2 feet of chain. I will position in a riffle and just drop the chain and stay on the spot to cast for trout. Depending on where you are at out at Blue Cat it is hard to use a stake out pole. There are 3 major bluegill bedding areas out there and where you position the kayak to fish the beds it is solid rock. Some places the bottom may only be soft for a few inches then you hit rock.

I fished the stretch of rip rap, I did not stray far from the ramp. The wind was not real strong but it was constantly blowing. I am going to either head to hurricane creek to see if the white bass are there or fish the little river by my house saturday to give the yak it's second float and try the poles out in shallower water.

How well did these work? How easy is it to pull it up and reposition after it's full and down in the water? I've watched a couple of videos online of folks using these but it seems like you could really only use them in deeper water where there isn't anything to get tangled up in.

I have used them in water as shallow as 4 feet with no problems. They work well for me when drifting banks at Center Hill fishing for Smallies. Having it connected to the anchor trolley allows me to drift a bank with the kayak pointed in the direction that is best for my casting. I have no problem pulling the drift chute in...keep in mind it is one that is designed for a kayak so it is not as big as what one would use on a boat. It slows the kayak pretty good. Got them at HOOK1 in Hendersonville.

I have an anchor trolley on my predator, but have only used it once. For me it depends on the type of fishing you are doing...I move around or drift most of the time.

Since the lure has open handles in the front and back you could setup it up like mine without drilling any holes in your boat. I looped bungee through the handle openings on the front and back then attached the pulley to the bungee. If I remember and you’re interested I can snap a pic and post it to give you an idea.

I think the anchor comes in handy on days like yesterday where I am fishing in 26' of water trying to stay on a school of fish with the wind blowing. Most of the time they are not needed for the fishing I do but it would have been awesome to have yesterday.

An anchor trolley is one of the 1st things I install. I just put one on one side of the kayak, usually the left, because my rod hand is my right hand. Like Alpha stated I also use my drift chute to drift down a bank while fishing it, or if I'm drifting shiners for Hybrids it slows me down if its windy so I can stay on top of the fish better.

I like it, plus I don't have to drill any holes.
