Default elite 5dsi

could somebody shed a little light on this unit .looking for a decent fish finder/gps unit .been told this unit is good but not sure what to get as for as something to show tree tops/ stumps and most of all fish

The "dsi" is down scan which is not the old school 2d sonar of years past. Lowrance makes good stuff, but they do not always include 2d sonar with their dsi units. The 5 is a good unit, good size screen for a small boat or yak, I had 2 of the 5's dual beams (2d) and wish I still had 'em.

If you are familiar with dsi, and know how to read/interpret it without 2d, probably can't go wrong with it. If this will be your 1st dsi unit, I would suggest you get one that will show 2d and dsi on split screens so you can learn how to read the dsi. After you learn to read dsi, you can use just the dsi screen.
