Co-poly Fishing Line

I've proposed the question before about co-poly lines and most responses were p-line. I tried it and wasn't very impressed. I'm specifically looking at McCoys Mean Green or Maxima Ultragreen. Anyone used either of these? If so, thoughts?

I've used both...both good lines. I suspect you are wanting a line much larger than 6# test. I have only used those lines in 2# test. Trout Magnet SOS line is co-polymer....one of the best co-polymers made.....but only goes to 6# test. You won't go wrong with either of the two lines you mention. Maxima....at 13 bucks a spool was too much for me to spend....I change my line out once every two weeks or so and it was cost prohibitive for me. I also went a year of using nothing but P-Line CX Premium. Great casting line but in 2# test and catching Smallies on it knot strength was not good for the 2# test....the reason it was so good for casting.....very thin diameter...was the same reason it was bad for knot strength....in my opinion. Of course I am only basing this all on 2# test. I caught a lot of Smallies on both lines and casting was great....manageability was great....knot strength was better than P-Line. Myself...my son.....and nephew quit using P-Line for the same reason...knot strength was just not that good in our opinion.

For years I've been a huge fan of yo zuri hybrid ultra soft and I can no longer find it. I've tried a few others (p-line and izorline) and haven't been impressed. If SOS made line heavier than 6lb it would definetly be on my list.

I did just buy a new ultra light rod/reel and going to spool it with some light line (not brave enough to go 2lb test). I am thinking about SOS for this setup. It's a St. Croix panfish rod with a Stradic CI4+ 1000.

Don't be afraid of the 2lb. I refused to go that small until last year and the SOS is fantastic. I will say I also like the Pline Fluroclear but that's all I have ever fished. I have never noticed any knot issues with it. I know this does not really help you, sorry

Goreds you will not be disappointed with the McCoys Mean Green line. It is very good stuff. I switched over from Spiderwire Ultracast several years ago and have no reason to try anything else.

Other than the SOS line I have never fished with the green tinted line. How does it compare to the clear line? Does the line blend well in the water? This coming from the guy who will fish 30lb braid all the way to the hook I gave Burtner your money last night Brock, don't let him run off to Mexico with it.

Juice...all I have ever fished is green line. I was told anytime you fish moving baits it's best to use green line, and almost all my fishing is moving baits.

When it comes to line I try to keep it simple. I typically carry four rods on my kayak (excluding my ultra light). I spool 12lb on my bait casting setups and 8lb on my spinning setups. This way I can buy bulk. I'm sure I'd have more success with using certain types of line with specific applications, but I'm not a professional. This has worked for me over the years.

The green tint blends in well with the water. I have fished lines tinted in green....blue....orange.....pink....red and probably some other colors as well. Of course I am fishing for Smallies...crappie...trout...Gills. With trout I use the fluro leader but not so much with other specie. I haven't found the line color to make a difference. Even fishing with white NanoFil I haven't seen any difference in catch rate. I have ordered some black line from Japan. It is an ester mono. Only thing I know about ester mono it is used to sew up folks after surgery....LOL. With age it is getting more difficult to see 2# test fishing line so color helps me a lot. Goreds don't be afraid of SOS 2# test line. It is...as with most American made mono lines....rated much lower than actual breaking strength. It will break closer to 4 pounds than 2 pounds. I have no clue how or when this practice started but lines in Europe and Japan will break at the strength they are rated at. Great UL setup you have there.

Use it. I finally trusted Alpha last year and it's good stuff. You will be impressed with the strength

2 lb SOS is much stronger than you would guess, I've torn branches off trees with it when I get my TM stuck in a tree
