Default Pigeon River

Fished it briefly yesterday and its one of the prettiest smallie streams I have seen. The water a very tanic dark clear water and full of fish. All I had was my Trout Mag gear but that was good enough. Caught 3 smallies, lost one 16" range and caught a big redhorse which jumped all over the place.

It's tannic from the papermill in NC. Tannins are the least of the worries about what they have dumped over the years. Only recently have cleanup efforts occurred.

Interesting.

It seems a lot of streams over here have has various contaminants get in them.

Here is short overview of a the major issues (abiet one sided): http://cwfnc.org/polluter-accountability/pigeon-river/

There was a big flood ('05 ish) that did a number on the large smallmouth, however it is rebounding.
