Default Got out for the first time in a couple weeks

I got out a couple times this week for the first time in a couple weeks. I haven't fished much at all the last few weeks and none at all for the last 2.5 weeks. For me that's gotta be the first time I've not fished for 2 weeks in about 4 years. I honestly just got burnt out on night fishing, and I'm not gonna fish when it's blistering hot unless it's for a tournament.

I fished JPP Wednesday and got absolutely soaked. I spent an hour or more sitting under the Hobson Pike bridge during the worst of the rain. The water was up and a lot cleaner than I thought it would be. I caught a fish here and there but only found 1 spot that was loaded with fish. It was a spot I found last fall when the water was high. The only problem is that when I got there 5 guys were bank fishing the little bridge I wanted to fish. Normally I wouldn't get near guys fishing from the bank but I'd made a long run in the rain just to get to that exact spot. I noticed they could only fish from the top of the bridge because of the terrain around it so I slid up to the side and was making a cast that they couldn't make because they couldn't leave the bridge. I caught a fish on almost every cast for 10 minutes with only 1 keeper. This spot is dynamite when there is high rising or falling water. It's the only good spot I found. On a side note the guys that were fishing from the bridge were handlining and snagging fish. They snagged a bunch of bass and bluegill while I was there. I never saw them throw back a single fish they caught. And they were catching the same size bass I was.

I fished Center Hill this morning. The water has come up a little over 10 feet in the last week. I expected the water to have a lot of color but I was dead wrong. It was the cleanest water I've seen on that lake since winter. And the water on the bank was gin clear. I struggled to get bit. I onky caught 3 fish all day. 2 smallmouth in deep water on the main lake and one 4lb skinny largemouth in the back of a pocket. I did lose a 3lber on a buzzbait and broke a fish off on the hookset flipping a flooded tree. I'll leave a picture of the one good fish I caught today. One odd thing that caught my eye today was for some reason there has been some kind of fish kill on the hill. I saw dozens of dead catfish floating and several dead walleye, and lots of dead shad.

I have a question for you bait experts. What kinds of baitfish are in Center Hill? The bait that I saw floating looked like big threadfin shad, but didn't have the black dot that I'm used to seeing. Are there different species of threadfin?

Man that's odd. We had single Gizzard shad on multiple occasions surface near us this morning on Priest. Almost like what Gar do when oxygen is low.
You would think with all the rain that we've had that oxygen wouldn't be an issue.

I thought about calling it in. The only reason I didn't is that these people looked to be poor immigrants. I would hate to get a guy in trouble for trying to feed his family. The fact is that they looked poor, had no fishing poles, and seemed to be desperate enough to "fish" in the rain. It was a judgment call but I certainly don't take game illegally and I don't condone it either.

I'm pretty sure it's time for lakes to start turning over. I'm not sure the 2 are related. What was the water color like and how did you guys do?
