Default Caney Fork 10/19-22

Took an annual trip with some great friends over the weekend and about all I can report that is positive is that the company was good! We caught a few trout and the quality was nice but the overall population is down (way down compared to last year) right now. I have to say, I know the supplemental sluicing is supposed to be good for the river but when it's a such a high volume with 2 or more generators it give the fish very few places to escape. The pond becomes a raging river, I scanned it really good after they cut the sluicing down to 250cfs and there was virtually nothing holding there. Usually there are schools of bait fish and game fish but nothing. The water coming from the sluicing also has a distinct odor which is probably harmless but reminds me of fishing near the water treatment plant on the Cumberland. On a side note, give Timberloft and Bellacinos a try at the Carthage Exit both really good food with nice owners.

I was fishing the Caney this past Sunday, 10/22/17, and like you, I saw almost no trout, especially near the dam. The past few months have been very strange, with very few fish anywhere.

Anyway, I walked a bit further down, close to the "stairs" and I saw quite a few jumpers. I was able to catch about 5 - 7 smallish trout, all on red size 20 midges.

I've been blogging about my Caney fishing experiences, if that interests you at all: http://www.runnerofthewoodsmusic.com/fish-blog/

Fished the Caney on Saturday and had a good day. Even lost one nice Rainbow and netted one nice Brown along with another 20 plus. If I was not so old I could have done much better. Sometimes I forget what to do when the indicator goes down. Love the caney

I'm going to hit the Caney today, assuming my wife gives the nod (isn't that sad?). Will let y'all know how it goes.

Would love to bring back one or two for dinner.
