Default Lowrance Elite 5 HDI Combo.... Experience?

I currently own the humminbird 597ci HD DI. Both units have sonar, gps, and down imaging. I don't own a map card and want/need one for when I'm fishing for hybrids in open water. The contour lines are valuable. Bass Pro is offering the Lowrance with a lake insight card included for $299 right now. A navionics card would run me about 150-170 so I'm considering buying the Lowrance, selling the 597, and getting a map card as close to free as possible. But... i'd like to hear from any of you that have real world experience on the Lowrance if you're willing to share/offer info. Would I miss any of the features on my humminbird?

Thanks in advance!

Smile Look in the upper right corner <'TK><

This subject has been hit more that once ... Go to the right of the Google . Punch the FishingTN dot and then search ... Google everything from H-Bird, Lowrance, depth finders ... etc ... There is a lot of valuable info there ... <'TK><

I went ahead and purchased the Lowrance, did a temp/red-neck installation, took the boat out and tested the units side-by-side. The Lowrance has better 2d sonar with the 83Kz option that casts a wider cone and I just like the sonar screen readout better. The Lowrance also has better built in and (obviously) map card included so the catography is great compared to the blank screen on the H'bird w/o a map card.

The Hbird wins in every other way. The down imaging is better in my opinion, the menu/user interface is much easier and more intuitive. And I'm already used to it.

Since the 2d sonar and mapping are the most important to me, I'm going to try to sell the Hbird with waypoints included (about 350 striper/hybrid that are awesome and some others I haven't used but have been told are great for crappie) and if it sells, keep the Lowrance. If it doesn't sell, I'm going to take the Lowrance back.

Have a great Monday everyone!
