CCA for battery

Any ideas on how many cca or mca I need in a starting battery for a 1985 40hp Johnson?

Any standard marine cranking battery ought to handle that task. 500-600 CCA

Remember the higher the cca the shorter the life.

The higher cca batts. have more plates and creates more fouling of said plates and really although I sell 1000cca for Big Trucks our area really does not need super high cca at least not for many years.

Halli I'm a little confused. You're saying a battery with higher cca will wear out faster due to being a higher cca? Won't I need a higher cca for when it's 32* and below for starting during duck season?

Please advise.

The higher cca I believe has more lead plates and usually won't last as long
as for having to have a high cca 500-700 is more than enough in our region at least it is for diesel trucks.
