What is it you don't like about the 899?

The down imaging on the 899 is not really a true "down image". It is a compilation of signals from the side scan melded by a program built into it to render a reasonable facsimile of down imaging. The same is true with the 1199.

The 859 HDdi has a true dedicated down imaging crystal and gives a much better image.

I talked to my Humminbird guru last night and mentioned that aero's Lowrance down imaging was so much clearer and detailed than my HB 1199 SI HD di. That is when I learned the facts about the 899 HD SI di.

So I'm looking for the sharpest di I can get and that would be an 859 HD di.

Yeah I knew that and mentioned that in the thread "Best fish finder/GPS for the buck". That unit will give you a 16 degree width versus a 25 degree with the 455Khz si units. That will give a sharper picture....no doubt. Humminbird also needs to get their software issues worked out with si "sharpness" feature and fix the 2D sonar returns. I am hoping they will. But all being said I am happy with the 899...make someone a good unit.

Regards

I have an 898 and a 999 and have not been blown away by the down imaging on either. The resolution and screen quality on the 999 is definitely a huge step up though.
