Crappie Tale (tail)
I was fishing for crappie with my wife Saturday morning. She had just put one in the boat when I got another. I had it on the line for maybe 5 seconds, and then the drag started peeling off my ultralight reel with 4 pound test. I fought it for 5 minutes or so. Finally got it to the boat – 13.5 pound flathead. The crappie’s tail was still sticking out of its mouth. I was hoping to be able to pull the crappie out and keep it, but by the time all the commotion was settled (having to pull the bigger net from one of our compartments), the crappie was too deep inside the catfish! You can see the tail in the picture of the catfish's mouth. I’ll tell that story for a few years to come. We ended up with 3 keeper crappie, several largemouth and white bass, and 1 other smaller cat.
