Default Pickwick Tailrace 06-18-2014

After reading Jaycee's post about white bass I had it in my mind to go get some. It is a little early for them to be at Pickwick but I went anyway. My plan was to stay and fish until dark but sitting in those boulders in this heat was a little more than I could take. So after 3 hours crawled out of there and headed home. Had a great day though. The whites all appeared to be male fish....13-17 inch range. They were not in the jumps. Had to lose a few jig heads as they were in the rocks about 8 foot deep. If you weren't bumping rocks you wouldn't catch any fish. I was using 6# test line on a medium light rod with a 1/8 ounce Double Cross jig head with a Killer Klatt Crappie Magnet. They were killing it. My clicker read 76 when I left. One of those 76 was a nice bonus fish. I got a pretty good largemouth.....even though he looks a little roughed up from living in the river. But he put up a darn good fight. I love catching those whites...they are just fun to catch. Schooling stripers were right in the center of boil number 3.....no way to get to them from the bank...but the few out in boats were killing them. Got to figure out where to go tomorrow. Life is good!

Regards

Thanks Merv....I would go early but the places I go I would have to get up at 2:00 a.m. to get where I was going. Thinking of maybe putting the kayak in in the late afternoon....four or five....to avoid the heat.

Regards

I can't think of many things more fun than catching 70+ white bass in the 13-17 inch range on light tackle! That's a great day of fishing!

Might get wet that late, and might be putting in right at the peak of the heat. Nice day for sure tho.
