Default Kayak tournament??

So how did it go guys? CreekCrappie and I fished for a couple hours. I had a tire go flat on the way to the lake and it put us an hour behind. We found a TON of fish all afternoon. Fish were just boiling around us most of the afternoon but we could not catch any of them. Isaac caught a white bass on a spook and I caught a largemouth on a roadrunner after seeing how small the shad were. He caught a bass on a worm too. We could mark fish but not get them to bite.... well Isaac had about 10 short strikes, I think he has about a bag of brush hogs missing limbs at the moment. I hope you guys did better. I took a screen shot of some fish, guessing whitebass/crappie/Bass right at the edge of a drop hanging around brush. I am going to try and go friday night and fish under the lights in the area. Oh and the flat.

Yes they seemed to like short striking tonight. It was crazy how many bites I had on my carolina rig only to have one bass landed. Size or color didn't matter, they bit and didn't hook up on every color I tried.

A white crappie magnet behind a noisy popping cork would probably work.. Better get some heaver line than 2 or 4 pounds. We caught a couple of hybrids out of the schools.

No trout magnets tonight, I had one tied on and then took it off for the road runner because it was heavier. Alpha you would have probably caught 500 fish on 2 pound test tonight on those trout magnets they way you catch fish with them.

I marked quite a few schools like that also. Only got a couple to hit a fat free shad. I did catch a bunch of those whites though on an SR5. They were everywhere.

Here is what I kept finding on the depth finder. Caught two 14-15" fish largemouth out of this school.

Could you see the size of the bait they were hitting? I have been in that position many times....they wouldn't hit anything I had. Soon the whites will be in the jumps below Pickwick. You should see the back pack tackle bag I will carry down those rocks...LOL. I will have the TM and CM but a lot of other baits too. Strange how a fish that most of the time can be easily caught is actively feeding and nothing you throw will attract them.

Yeah I could see the size of the shad because at one point a fish was chasing them within 5' of the boat and all the baitfish were small. I found a school of bass last summer that were chasing small shad and the only thing I could catch them on was a small rooster tail.

They were in the jumps several places at Hamilton last night too. A small popper with a crappie magnet a foot behind was deadly on them. They were puking up 1" minnows boatside. That's why that killer Klatt crappie mag works so well, exact size and color of the bait.

It was hot, hot, hot. Well the temperatures, not the fishing.

We had 34 anglers show up. This was our largest Tuesday event yet. We were able to get registrations and the Captain's meeting in before the projected time to launch (5:15). Thank you everyone for being prepared and well organized, we the hosts are getting better and appreciate your patience.

We had several new guys who had never fished with us, and some that had fished with us last year, but not this year. We had 9 new guys that hadn't fished with us yet this year show up. One guy is brand new to Nashville, and another was on business from Louisiana and wanted to fish with the very well known and respected KBFTN guys and gals.

I myself fished a long point, the point and both sides of it. Throwing cranks from 6' to 20' deep, and Carolina rigged soft plastics. I was marking brush and fish. I caught several blue gill on cranks, and a few drum. I moved off the point to a drop in 14-16' of water and worked the cranks, and C-rigs again, by this time the white bass were blitzing. I pulled out a small blade bait and hooked into a big fish. It fought for a few seconds and then just came to a halt on the bottom. I winched him to the top coming to find a 26"+ flathead at the end of my line. Hey Kayak War Points I thought to myself. I caught no black bass.

1st and 2nd place have not fished this lake before.
We are starting to see some great anglers to the area

Results Fish 1 Fish 2 Total Paid
Scott Harper 17.0 18.75 (BIG FISHSMALLMOUTH) 35.75" $325
Casey Brunning 18.25 16.0 34.25" $95
Terry Bowman 13.0 13.0 26.0" $40
Michael Ernst 11.25 14.25 25.5" $30
Jonathan Bartlett 12.75 9.25 22.0" $25

A big thanks to Alphahawk and Leland Lures for the Trout Slayer packs. We will think of creative ways to give these out at future events.

Afterward several of us went to eat, and had a great time until they closed down.

Nice report MidTN. Those are some good size fish weighed in. It's just nice to know that I was not the only one not catching fish.
