Default Afternoon on JPP

Well, I got out for a couple hours today after work. I started fishing deep by stewart creek ramp, no luck. Moved up to a hump I like going into the river, caught 3 on an A rig, 2 keepers. 1 one a C rig, Had two fish bite my worm in half. Left those fish to move shallow then caught one of a buzz bait and had another big fish blow up on it. I then ran back into the lake and found out I had ran out of oil..... My alarm went off and I shut her down. I used my trolling motor to back to the ramp, probably 3 miles or so. I have fished so little I forgot I did not have any oil in my oil tank. It was a good afternoon on the water. I am going to hit the lake for Crappie under the lights in the next couple weeks and try to fill the freezer again. I found baitfish on every drop off. I took a picture of a cloud of baitfish I found by stewart creek, No fish caught off them.

TK, the location I am fishing is pretty flat. It's right off the end of a point and I know it really well. There were tons of baitfish everywhere. I would have to say the shad spawn is going on right now. The school of fish I was on were sitting on the backside of a hump and it had baitfish all over it, no schools as big as the picture but still a ton of bait fish.

i saw quite a bit of that same thing saturday myself.
huge, huge clouds of bait and im guessing some fish mixed in.
I figured the shad would have taken a beating after the cold winter, but so far, i cant say that is 100% correct, at least what i have seen so far.

Out on the main lake, Old Hickory is already starting to get covered up in balls of shad. I have seen several large schools on the surface.

Man, that's one lake I want to fish but I really suck at. I have maybe fished it 10 times in the last 3 years. I might try and go out this summer and fish under the lights for walleye, had a guy tell me about some locations he likes to fish at night but he did not tell me when he did it.

I have seen that, it is bait or small fish. IMHO

looks like a lot of baitfish to me, I seen some clouds on them at Normandy last Sunday, not full blown as they get later in the summer but begining to cluster into some good size clouds, water temp was 78 deg

TK, there is separation between the bottom and the "cloud". That would indicate baitfish.

Merv, your right after looking at it again I see voids on the bottom ... But at 13 feet depth ... It could have been Crappie structure laid out ... Me bad ... <'TK><
