Default Rockfish in the jumps

Hit the Cumberland river today to do a little white bass fishing. Managed a few but nothing exciting. I think they may have spawned out by now in this area. Decided to ride up to the dam and try for some hybrids, whites or rockfish in the current. Soon as I got there I saw it.

Rockfish were blowing up all over the place on the surface! Luckily, I had my big stick with me today just in case. Tied a smoky joe redfin lure on and cast at a boil. Two or three cranks later one hit my redfin like a freight train. Great fight with lots of drag pulled before I got him in the boat. The fish was 30 pounds right on the money on my Boga grips.

In the end I boated 6 fish all weighing between 25-30 lbs and lost two others plus many that hit but never hooked up. This was an unbelievable 45 minutes of fishing and then it slowed to a trickle so I packed it in and came home. All fish caught on a redfin and not the jig you see in the picture.

All the fish were just as fat as this one. Giant bellies!!

That fish is FAT!

Nice work. I'm planning to get the yak to 7 points tomorrow morning early to chase Hybrids. There may be a rockfish or two in there, but not that big.

You can't mistake the sound of Rockfish feeding on the surface! There is no question what it is when you hear it.
