Default Good day at Center Hill

Had a great day at Center Hill today. My plan was to catch trophy smallies but the wind was too much for me to stay out where they were at. Browntrout has that new Slayer Propel and that is the way to go...if I get a next kayak it will be a pedal drive for sure. When I first arrived I head to a location known to hold shell crackers and Gills also. It did not disappoint. The Gills were running 8 inches and the shell cracker were running from 7 to 9 inches. Caught about a dozen gills and a dozen shell crackers. I got into some Smallies in the 13 inch range.....had 4 of those.....and a little over a dozen of 9-10 inch Smallies. I was there about two hours before browntrout arrived and I was out fighting the wind when he showed up. He asked me if I had seen those crappie on the way out and I told him no and he told me where they were at. It was protected from the wind so I went back and started looking for them and in about 6 feet of water there they were...dozens of big black nose crappie. You could see the black stripe running down their back. I also found another spot the same way about 100 feet away from the first spot. I pulled between 40-50 crappie from those two spots. All of them were 13-14 inches...most 14 inches. Center Hill is known for big black nose. Those fish had broad shoulders. I kept thinking maybe I would get a 16 or 17 inch one but did not. All my fish were caught on a Purple Redemption Trout Magnet using 2# test line. Meanwhile browntrout is texting me pics of his trophies....LOL. But I ain't going back out in that wind. Crappie...Gills...and shell crackers is good enough for me. I saw quite a few of big large mouth on bed but they wanted nothing to do with me. I had no cooler...stringer....nothing....so all of those fish were released to fight another day....and they pulled good too. Going to clean up kayak and vehicle and rest tomorrow and head to Nickajack Friday...life is good!

Nice. Only been to Center Hill once and I couldn't figure it out. Seems like a deep lake. Btw what kind of kayak do you have now?

Just another boring day for you Alpha. You are totally disgusting.
You can drop the old yak off at my house when you upgrade. I will dispose of it for you.

Great report Alpha, and thanks for the pictures. Over the past 3 months I've been missing my Mirage Drive, time to save up for a new fleet.

Jeremy,
I really like the Slayer Propel. I had been waiting for 2 years for it come out. It is the best fishing kayak that I have ever used. I have never fished from a PA but I did test drive one and I put it through a good test. Long story short I tore up the mirage drive system on it on my test drive. If you want a pedal system I would really look at the Slayer propel. I think you would really like it.

Doc...I have the new Big Game Prowler II. It is as stable as they come...and heavy. Center Hill can be tough at times.

We've had the Hobies for a few years Pro Anglers and a Revolution and had no issues that weren't easily repaired on the water, but I'll definitely look into the Propel also.

Nice crappie.

People seem to really be slaying them this year. Every lake is having good year classes.
