Default Pickwick tailrace 04/17/2014

Headed to Pickwick early this morning. Wanted to fish a point on the lake but due to strong southerly winds pushing flotsam...debris.....towards the bank I couldn't do it. The debris field was 10 feet thick. Will have to wait for a good east...west...or north wind to blow it off the bank....but it sure is a good spot this time of year. I went below dam and fished by the lock. Turned out to be a good decision. I caught a very chunky large mouth that measured 16.5 inches. Took a while to get it to the net using the UL and 2#test line. I caught a 14 inch Smallie....the next biggest was a nice 12 inch fish and several 8 and 9 inch fish....a lot of fun. Got 4 shell crackers like the one in the pic....8-9 inches long. Caught 3 crappie that were 12-13 inches. I gave those away to a man whom by his looks could really use the fish. All fish were caught using 2# test with a Bison colored Trout Magnet on a 1/32 jig head. They were dropping the water pretty fast this morning. If the water comes back up next week the crappie bite in there should be really good. Noticeably absent were Gills of any size. Did not get a water temp but it is still cool there. I am really hoping the wind changes directions before the middle of next week. Headed to Nickajack tomorrow.

Regards

Good job.

Glad you caught a bunch. I can just feel the fight you had with that big LM!
