Williamsport fishing report.

Got to Williamsport this morning at 7:40 a.m. Wanted to beat the wind. Fished Blue Cat for 3.5 hours and caught around 65 Gills. They are not the same as the ones at Laurel Hill but they have good girth and broad shoulders.....all around 7 inches....put up a heck of a fight. I think the crappie may have moved from yesterday as I only caught one....but it was a keeper sized fish. But I wasn't really fishing for crappie. I was twitching a Bison colored Trout Magnet in the rocks....about 6-7 feet out from the bank of the dam. For those that are going there this weekend to fish from bank...on the dam....you will probably do best if you cast parallel to the bank. Of course the fish could move out deeper anytime but I think they are close to the bank for the warmth. The hybrid were occasionally exploding on the water after big shad. Wanted to give a report on Shell Cracker also so fished it for about 45 minutes. The deal is same with the Gills.....just a little off the dam. The crappie are there but they are not growing much.....at least the few I caught today.....all about 9 inches or just over. The crappie in Shell Cracker are however in their dark spawning colors......kids would love the colors. The bass fisherman were at Shell Cracker this morning....don't take long for word to spread of the catch of a 10 pound large mouth....LOL. Headed to Nickajack tomorrow for some serious fishing....LOL.

veny nice colors on those gills, the turkeys pic from yesterday was pretty neat as well, those longbeards sure did not like your prescence bother them at all which is rare during the spring!!, love to see those colors shine!!

Thanks Jeremy....as soon as Laurel Hill gets going I will let you know. Good chance of getting some 11 inch copper nose this year.

Wow! That's like catching a 40 lb striper. I want some of those 11 inchers!

I'm there Alpha. Right around 11" is my biggest ever. I used to fish with my grandpa, and that's all he would fish for. He was the only person who had permission to fish a 60-80 acre gravel quarry. We would use crickets and slip bobber and fish 15-20' deep, the water was very clear visibility was 12'+. My grandma said he caught a few that went 13". They had big black ears, and were a very dark bronze, and almost black, the most beautiful bluegill I had ever seen He would pick me up and we'd spend the day on his Tracker Boat. He'd give me a pinch of snuff and I'd be sick all day, I think he thought it was funny.

The owner and his kids lived hours away and they had no interest in fishing. They would just come out once a month on a weekend with jet skis, and ski boats to play and camp.

Yeah those big ones get black.....really pretty. I have several northern strain Gills 10 inches and a little over.....all out of Laurel Hill. I never mentioned it but last year a friend of mine had a copper nose from there pushing the 12 inch mark....a gorgeous fish. This is going to be the year.

Sounds like you had a great day today Alphahawk! I just missed you at Williamsport - I was eager to try out your advice (which I appreciate greatly) so I got to Blue Cat with my jon boat around 12:30 and fished til 6:30…was so windy on the dam that I was getting blown around but did land two big bluegills twitching a bison Trout Magnet…but due to the wind I went up in a cove and stayed in the less windy area fishing downed trees…I caught 25-30 crappie, black nosed crappie, and bluegill…all on the Bison…it is a machine of a bait for sure…I was using a bobber though to avoid tree branches I was fishing in…using some techniques from Jeff's video…hey, what kind of fish is this in my picture? I caught about five of them, all around 5 to 6 inches…this one had a weird curved scrape on it...all my crappie and bluegill were around 7-9 inches. Thanks again for the tips and advice!

That's what I call a golden shiner....one of the things that keeps those hybrids fed out there. Glad you caught some fish. It is hard to hide from the wind on any of those lakes out there. I do enjoy fishing there but those roads will kill a vehicle. I bet the dust was flying on those roads today.
