Williamsport 04/01/2014
My two girls (3 yo and 18 mo) and I fished Whipporwill Lake at Williamsport from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The small bass were all over a bison TM twitched, when we first got there. They either moved, stopped biting, or I caught all the ones I could cast to because it played out quick.
No bluegill so I put on a weighted float and got out farther than I could cast the TM by itself. No luck.
I switched to a purple haze TM and fished it drop shot. I tied it on with a loop knot, attached a small swivel to the tag end and two split shot above the swivel. On 2 lb test, I could really cover some water with this rig.
I started by letting the rig sink, tightened the line, and twitched it in place. I caught a really nice bluegill on my first cast, thought I had them figured out but no. I next tried the drop shot rig with one split shot and slowly dragging the TM back in while twitching. No bites.
I switched to a Irish Whiskey slider worm on a 1/32 oz weedless slider crappie head. Caught one bass on a steady do-nothing retrieve. Tried to repeat it, then tried other retrieves, but no luck.
Total fish - 5 small bass, 1 nice bluegill.
The lakes were busy, first nice day and Maury Co schools on spring break. The fisherman I could see from my position and those I talked to were getting results similar to mine.
TWRA was at the lakes doing some work. A group of three TWRA workers came around and talked to us for a while. They were fixing the bank fishing platforms at Whipporwill and getting ready to sink christmas trees, also in Whipporwill.
