Default Driftmaster Rod Transport Rack

Finally bought my Driftmaster Rod Transport Rack I've been wanting to put on the boat for long poles. Got my boat from the shop today and low and behold the racks aren't tall enough to go over the sides of the boat! I've thought about mounting them right on the gunwales, but am afraid that with it being the offset rod rack that it will stick to far over the side.

Boat at is a 1997 1650 xpress. Steering console, front deck and back deckish area that seats mount on.

Ill try try to get pictures on here later to show where I was thinking about putting it.

Any thoughts? Would your poles hanging over the side of the boat in a rod rack going down the road or across the water make you nervous?

thanks!
