Default Pickwick 3-07-2014

Tried Pickwick out today with some success....just not the fish I was hoping to find. The water is 41 degrees....stained. I caught only 2 crappie but both were 14 inches. I caught a ton of small Gills that were so opaque as to be almost white. Caught a couple of large mouth colored the same. Caught a bunch of yellow bass also but the size is nothing like the yellow bass on JPP. The white bass have been up by the dam but they closed the gates this a.m. and they turned off or left.....just my luck. But it was nice to be on the water and having something hit my lure. Hoping water warms up soon.

Regards

Nice crappie! At least you caught some fish! Why do you think the fish were so pale?

I don't know. This is a first for me...maybe coming from 20 feet deep....combined with the cold. No color at all. The crappie had color...the Sandies also. I caught a few small white bass about 11 inches and they were pale too.....stripes were really dull. Will be fishing it hard the next month so curious to see how they look as water clears and warms.

Coupla nice crappie there, Randy. The whites should be hitting from now til end of April. We're going to get a little warming trend here for a bit and the fish should really start hitting.
