Default What is this species

I finished for short time in a creek today in Mount Juliet close to my house. Caught. three of these looks like good bait for smallmouth. What is it you guys know?

They are an okay smallmouth bait but not as good as you'd expect. For whatever reason, the stoneroller minnows are much, much better for smallies.

Gar really love the shiners though.

When I creek fish with trout magnets I catch these often too, they're shiners.

I have always wondered what they are. I caught about 10 last summer fishing in the river for bluegill.
