Default Old Hickory 11/10/2013

Hi all,

I took my young son out fishing today on Old Hickory. I netted a few shad by the boat ramp to do some drift fishing if I got the chance. Spent the first few hours playing, snacking, and sightseeing with a little bit of fishing. He got tired after lunch and went to sleep in the bottom of the boat under a bunch of coats and blankets. I was able to bait up and send a few shad down to the endless schools of big fish I could see on the depthfinder.

I got a good hit in the second school I drifted though. After a good fight I got a good striper to boatside and almost lost him. Woke up my boy and had him grab the net. Finally got him in the net and he measured at 41 inches with a guess of about 30 or so pounds. We release it after a picture.

I asked my son to take the picture and he did a great job of getting me in the picture. Not so great at getting the fish. So here is my 4 year olds cell phone pic of my striper At least he didn't drop the phone in the water like I have done in the past.

Another great day fishing on Old Hickory,
Jim

Nice fish. What a great son. He would rather have the picture of DAD than a fish.

I had to look twice at that pic. Thought Bill Dance was posting on here.

Awesome lineside. What were old hick's water temps, by the way ? I'm itching to get on the lake and see what the striped fish are up to since I've been away from fishing.

Yep, he is a great son. This morning before my wife took him to preschool, he said "Dad, can we skip school and go fishing?" Very tempting....

Water temp was 59 degrees where I was. Glad you are able to get back to fishing. We should get together for a trip sometime soon.

Great pic and story. I'm sure your son was excited to net such a fish. A lot of my memories of dad was watching and helping land fish.

Great fish Jim and an even better story and picture! I'd love to get my 4 year old out with me, but every time we practice casting, he insists on me casting while he retrieves the plug...still have some work to do on that.

And what's up with the hat?? Have you completely given up on your tigers after last week???
