Default Cumberland River (Clarksville area) 8 Nov 2013

Well, it was a tough day out on the river today. Due to the cold (29 with frost) I wussed out and waited till around 8:30 before I headed out. Yeah it was nice, weather-wise while I was fishing but once again, I couldn't put a keeper in the boat. Water temp was right around 58 and the river was very clear, with not much current except for maybe an hour around 9.

I started out fishing for bass and caught nothing but fish like the one in the pic, then I got out the inline spinner, hoping there were some white bass around...nope. Threw a lipless crank for a while, a square bill, spinnerbait...nothing.

Then I broke out the ultralight and spent the next few hours fishing crappie magnets (chartreuse/white and bison color) under a bobber close to the bluffs and rocks. Caught one small bass and that was it LOL. I think I may have to pay for a hotel room for Alpha so he can come up here and show me what the heck I'm doing wrong.

Even though the fishing wasn't the greatest, I sure did enjoy the nice fall day and I'm happy I didn't get the wind that Alpha got down at Nickajack.

Nomad, I know that you would like to post some pics of big bass. I am afraid that if that happens we may not get to see those beautiful pictures of nature.
Promise that you will continue to post the beautiful pictures that are not always fish.

I don't think your doing anything wrong. Like you I didn't hit the water until about 8:45. It is really tough on these waters. There were several bass boats within easy sight of me today and they didn't catch the first fish. I know the price of their boat is no indication how one fishes but they had the best money could buy....but didn't catch a thing. I too enjoy your pics. The mountains around me today were full of color but this iPhone can't do them justice.

Regards

I promise . Don't tell anyone, but catching fish is secondary. Seeing the sun rise, the fog on the water in the early morning, not hearing another sound except the wind rustling the leaves, checking out the local scenery...I honestly can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing.

Time for a new el cheapo camera too...Dust or something has gotten under the glass, you can see the smudge in the upper right corner of the pics.

I talked to two other boaters back at the ramp and neither of them had any luck at all so maybe it was just one of those days.
