Default JPercy Priest 11-05-13

Went to one of my fall spots to catch some white bass and yellow stripe from the shore. Caught a few each and then this one hit. 16lb. Striper on 4lb test, ultralight reel, 6.5' light rod, 1/4 oz. kastmaster. It was at 5:30 PM, so it was dark, pic is not too good from my flip camera phone.
Fish was 32" long and was released. Looks like the fall run has started.

Thanks, this fish was a real challenge. Initial run it could have easily spooled me, even with the drag set near the line breaking point. I ended using my hand to slow down the spool, had maybe 2 wraps of line when I finally got the fish to stop and go sideways. I would estimate it took me 15 min. to land. Arm was even sore afterwards.

Very nicely done. There is no feeling like watching helplessly as your spool becomes more and more visible. Gotta love the fight of the Morone family.

Crap man... a rockfish that big on 4lb test?! I bet that was a thrill!! I'm really hoping to get one this fall. I catch a lot of green and brown bass and I love it but I'd really like to figure out those silver and black striped ones!

I want one! Did you catch it in the river or lake? I think I am going fishing Saturday instead of deer hunting.

I'm thinking fishing will be really good next 2 weeks. Noticed a lot more fish now feeding in 1-4 feet water. The striper was caught in a mid-lake cove.

Thank you, I will be out Saturday morning. I guess I will fish the lake and see what I come up with. I will be fishing for bass but I will hit up some of my striper areas as well. Most of my spots for them are up around 4 corners.
