Default Caney closures from COE website

Notice: Oct. 4, 2013 Friday at noon
Due to the government shutdown the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is closing all of its campgrounds and day use parks at noon on Friday. The Corps sincerely regrets the inconvenience and the impact this decision may have on visitors, campers, fisherman, boaters and paddlers.
There will be no access to the boat ramps at the dam area, as well as no fishing at the dam area. The Long Branch campgrounds will close at noon also. We will try to keep in touch to let you know if anything else develops.

If was was going to go fishing this weekend there would be some missing barricades. Why do you close a concrete ramp that no one maintains anyway. Strictly a ploy. Plus if i go over, through, around, the barricade who will arrest me. TWRA? Dont think so. Whats the crime, using a ramp I have already paid for?

There I feel better now, I will go back to watching football!!!

I can understand all Fed Parks Corp Ramps, Camp Grounds ...COE etc Closures do to the Budget ... And the Corps controls the Navigable waterways as far as signage and depth control as well as the enforcement of said waterways by the U.S.C.G ...

But have you noticed commercial and construction traffic is still doing business as usual .... Tonight on the news about the Gen Jackson May have to change it's trips upstream because of a construction barge carring a crane wipped out some power lines over the Cumberland .....

As far as fishing in the Center Hill Dam or fishing in any COE waterway or lake (By the way the Caney is not a navigable waterway) WE won the right to fish any of these When Sen. Alexander got the Right to Fish Act passed ... In MY opnion The feds can prevent you from using Fed Property to accsses ...These Lakes and rivers ... But they can't stop you from fishing it !! Especially below dams !! It is a 8 mile run upstream from Bettys Island but you could motor up and fish ...

This is good info from Jimmy (jad2t)... Notice the COE said yes that Fed access would be closed to JPP ... But fishing is OK ...

This is all my personal opinion and does not represent the staff and members of FTI .. <'TK><

From Facebook - reply from the COE:

Jimmy DiTraglia So when you say those that don't have a gate will have a sign, you mean access areas along JPP will have a sign saying we can't fish? I plan to fish Smith Springs area Saturday morning out of my kayak. Am I going to have a path to the water or will it be barricaded?

Nashville District Jimmy DiTraglia - The gates/signs are only for the closure of federal boat ramps. Have a good time fishing and be safe...

So it looks like we're ok to use access points to the lake.

What ramp to Priest is Federal?

Were it not for the fact that Cuba Landing is contained within the National Wildlife Refuge unit, I would have just moved the barricade and launched.

I didn't have much use for Democrats before this mess came up, but I damn sure don't have any use for them now. This Oblamacare could just be enough to spark the next revolution. The poor was never in jeopardy of having to comply, and the current middle class is being collapsed to poverty levels with mandatory high payments and higher deductibles.

Don't be so critical of those cooperative democrats. Obama has stated that he will negotiate if the republicans will meet all his demands.

I am curious. Sunday we launched at the dam. There were no signs or barricades that indicated that the ramp was closed. Given the fact that there were only two vehicles with boat trailers in the parking lot, it would appear that the word, right or wrong, was out that the area was closed.

There were still hundreds of yakkers and canoes on the river.

The fishing sucked. Maybe the trout got the COE memo. We did see 2 ospreys and a bald eagle. Maybe the fish were in a 'low profile' mode to avoid the buteos(hawks, eagles, and ospreys).

per Joel's website on 10/4

Update: as one hour ago new decision!
Boat Ramps at Long Branch and Buffalo Valley recreational areas will remain open, but the campground at Long Branch is close and the day use parks.
